Garden Thread 2014

Post up pics of your gardens and harvest throughout the year. Here is mine after the thaw.

Veggies go here. I pack it in tight but it seems to work out.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1394577475.119182.jpg

Along the back, I have a grape vine, sapling apple, sapling peach, and fig tree that is behind the canoe. The bare spot to the right of the boats is for flowers and hostas, not enough light for veggies.

I put three tomato plants, an eggplant and herbs in the ground and containers on the porch.

The front is a flower garden. The liberal POS dig walkers let their dogs piss on it until I scream at them.

Mine is a fucking mess right now. I have so much manure to spread it's almost a crime. Fence to fix, too. Ugh. Thanks for reminding me.

Mine has a little way to go yet - still under a foot or so of snow...but it won't be long.

That's a big ass garden AT. I could only dream.

DED, the last of our ice in the backyard melted today. I had had it with the snow. I can't imagine still being under a foot of that crap right now.

But 50° during the day sure feels good.

AT & waterfowl man,
If I get down to MD, one of those fig trees in the small pots are yours. I saved you two pots last year but never made it down. They grow into bushes and give a crap load of purple figs. They are cold tolerant too.

Thanks brother! I've wanted figs for quite some time, but have always been too cheap.

My garden is usually a disaster except for the "Knock your dick in the dirt" peppers which are not only hot but also very pretty plants that last from year to year. Anyone that wants a dried pepper to harvest the seeds and plant, just drop me a line and I will send you one.

I just went out the other day to assess the damage. AT, yours looks like a shrine compared to mine. Gonna require everything redone including the fence. And the guy who normally does my tilling with his tractor is moving to MO in a couple weeks so I am going to have to pay for it this year.

Planting cool weather spring stuff today before it rains the rest of this week.
Lettuce, snow peas, spinach, and radishes.
It begins.

I did the same thing VP. Then when it got too big I figured out a way to make a table with "levees" and a sheet of plastic. Watering seedlings individually lasted about a week the first time I started seeds.
Can start about 350 seedlings on a table like you get at walmart. six feet by two feet roughly.

Ran the tiller for about an hour last night. Still need about 10 more hours, probably. But the muffler finally rusted off. Completely off, so I stopped after a bit, since it now blows an open header directly across the vent holes in the gas cap lid. Midst stop for fear of danger, but because if that bitch caught fire, I'd have to buy a new rototiller, and I don't want that to happen.

So far, no luck finding a muffler for a 1968 Montgomery Ward tiller. Will keep looking.

AT. My tiller is a round point shovel that I sharpen frequently.
Have found that tilling just where the row goes is fine. Don't need to make every square inch into powder.
My mater patch stays munched year round. Just rake a spot. Dig, plant, replace mulch, and put a cage on...done.
I do it the lazy way.

AT...get creative. With the right bushing you can change sizes of pipe and get a Briggs and Stratton muffler to fit. Use an elbow and make it point a different direction.
