I put my bonsai trees outside. They are ficus trees and if it gets below 60...they can die.
It looks like they're out til fall. Mid to upper 80's for highs. Mid to low 60'S for lows. Looking good.

Tomatoes are coming along nice, but the jalapeños are slow growing, as usual.

I am soo jealous of your soil right now. :(. I need another 3yards of peat moss compost and a load or two of horse shit before it will start to be acceptable. This will be my 3rd year doing compost and you can just now see the clay starting to break up.

Funny how growing regions differ. My tomatoes are 3 feet tall and flowering already. You got a nice looking garden there jim. Wish I had that much open dirt in my back yard. I have to much lawn. Im thinking some of it has to go. I wanted to put in corn this summer. But I just don't have the room.

You are going to make salsa.

Cilantro is invasive but is OK. It will grow back next year and seedlings come up all over.

Was weeding and then detected the odor of cilantro, looked down and went, OH... it grows back. Last summer was first time I grew it.

If you want a decent salsa recipe I got one. Everyone I have ever shared the salsa with tries to drink it. Its that good.

The wife makes killer salsa. I make the pasta sauces. I give my dad some of the peppers we grow to make vinegar peppers. They are great on a sandwich. Gonna can most of it for all year use.

A.b have you ever vacuum sealed tomatoes and froze them? I heard they hold up pretty good.

When i planted it. It was only maybe couple inches tall and maybe the same wide. Shit has blow up already. The wife as been pulling from it for over a week now.

Honestly. You just have to plant and water it out here. Pretty much you can grow about anything. When the temp is in the 90s or higher you can almost watch the plants get bigger every day.

I'm good with just about anything besides cilantro. Every time I plant, it makes it to about 2 inches, then dies. I don't get it. But if I ever run out of Roundup, that Spearmint will take over the garden in about a week, I think.

Do you just keep adding straps for the tomatoes? Never seen it done like that.

Yes. It's old electric fence tape, but as I go up, it'll be vinyl clothesline. Since I just grow Romas, I've never staked before, but the neighbor does and he claims it makes them produce a little better. And makes them much easier to pick. That bottom one was set just to plant in a straight line. I'm going to hill them up a little today, and then run the fence tape back down the other side, and set it to the height needed at each pole. Then you just use a twist tie or small piece of wire in between each plant, to bring both sides together and make a little "cage" for each individual plant. We'll see how it goes, and if it makes a difference. It's not like it's a lot of extra work, though, even if it doesn't do much.

Post some more pictures later as you go. I couldn't bring myself to buy more cages for my romas so they are just going free. Too late now though.

I have mixed feelings about caging and staking tomatoes.

Its a vine and it will fall over and take root. Unstaked is probably how you get a higher yield but then lose some to rotting on the ground.
I use cages because I don't like sticking my hand into a ground rotted mater.

This post is strictly opinion and no facts but I can do that. :)

I think it'll work like a champ. Every time I've grown peppers in containers, they've done well.

Don't feed your kids anything that you grow in those, most are treated with nasty chemicals...
