Big Lake diet plan.
You'll be sleeping either on the ground or in the bed of a pickup and meals are served daily but just one.
Eat all you want. You'll feel great and hunt hungry.
The license costs so much you can't afford food.

Seriously tho try to stay outside for two weeks.
I feel great when I'm doing it and wonder how the hell I ain't sick? It toughens you up very quick.
The first two days are rough tho.
By day three you start smelling yourself.
By day 5 your nose is numb to it.

You must be rich.
Fishing license is very high for a non resident.
I never even thought about taking poles and I'm sleeping where the locals fish.
Ppl stop to ask me if they're biting.
I'm like " that's a duck boat and I can't fish. No license".

Put on black face, fish there, and you won't get checked.

park on the bridge and fish

One day I'd like to just go on the refuge with a duck call and basically pretend to hunt. Limit out in a minute.

Panko shrimp with mustard greens.
Greens in winter here is a luxury.
It makes you feel good.
We try and eat greens three times a week at least.

Did that too but no roaster.
Just let it drip into the bucket.
Smoking a turkey or chicken is the best way imo.
Brining takes it to the next level

Reminds me of Ernesto and Theresa.
I caught their grandson stealing cherry tomatoes and they saw me catch him. They got very upset but I was just happy the kid liked them. Had 6 cherry tomato plants the whole neighborhood was taking them.
I told them it's "no problemo".

A few weeks later Theresa brought me Tamales she'd made in her tiny trailer kitchen.
Green and red both... I miss that woman.
I'll never forget them tamales

An ancient Toledo Scale from the 60’s. About to start grinding and stuffing 51 lbs of deboned pork butts seasoned with garlic, salt and cayenne pepper.

Now I gotta try that.
I think they have mixes at Rural King for different flavors.
Right now I ain't got freezer space.
Gotta eat some ducks.
Make gumbo again.

That never gets old.
She wants them hot wings again today tho.
Louisiana hot sauce mixed with Cajun Power garlic sauce 50:50 works great.
That honey jalapeño sauce is most excellent I'll try and send some when that orchard is open this summer.

sweet grinder.
One of my favorite hunts was on the last day of duck season. I think it was 2010.
Was at Hood Lake hunt club on the north side of Bayou deview wma.
A guy I'd hunted with all week brought a banquet of seafood and sausages that we cooked in Steve Turner's blind. I'm not sure if he's alive still but I'd bet that someone is still using that spot it's epic.
Hood Lake...
Jonesboro, Arkansas they had a Facebook page.

That's a hell of a place and the story of how they got it?
Turner's grandfather bought 50 acres for $12.50.
Imagine that. Hood Lake. Cool eh?

If we had a Time Machine, we could own all the spots instead of the states and Feds.

Got the sausages hanging and lit the fire.

Yesterday sucked...
Starting late Friday night the neighbors were going at it.
Not sure what they were fighting about but it appeared that the female wasn't going to accept defeat.
Ever been there ? Fighting with a female that thinks arguing means win at all costs.
She just wouldn't give up and kept reigniting him.
They ended up in their front yard rolling around fighting while the whole neighborhood watched.
You couldn't ignore it.
Finally the police showed up .
Due to the safety act nobody wants to arrest anyone because a judge will just turn them loose.
They have three toddlers that were negotiating with the police...comical.

Hell if I'd started videoing their crazy fights it'd have started on Christmas 2018. They moved in and the very first day ...poh leece.
It's their "normal". By now I'd have a two season mini-series if I could film and edit...
The episode where she came over bawling...he's hiding inside and is gonna get me boo hoo hoo...
So I got my dog and search...nothing.
That woman can turn it on and off like a switch.
Whaaaa

On the lighter side I think he knows we're cooking the ducks he fetched. Smells like duck in here.

When she Browns the ducks has a certain odor.
Damn it's good.
My wife has it down to a science.
16762302584626378602270541247814.jpg

She's working on the sausage now.
Just get a 12 inch Dutch oven.
Do it! It only took her a week to figure out it's great for gumbo.
1676230349676408207901784975859.jpg

Three ducks died to make this meal.

If I had my own club I'd try and get the wife to make gumbo twice a week and double the recipe to make more. When we talk about it she's like " yeah right that's my dream to cook and clean for a bunch of dirty duck hunters and their dogs". We laugh ...
