We had this recipe box thing.
Searched thru all our cook books for a gumbo recipe and found nothing. In the generic plastic box of recipe cards was a recipe for creole chicken gumbo.
We tried it and both the wife and I at once said " it'd be better with duck".
This was before we had internet so it was just by chance that our gumbo is creole style.
This eats Cooksey up...lol

Ship me a bowl, I’m hungry.

My wife let's me eat some. She packs it all into a big plastic bowl and just like that it's gone
My grandkids love gumbo.
So I'm out hunting for food and will get insanely upset if I catch any of you wasting ducks.
Don't do it.
I caught my new-found friends wasting a nice pile of mallards.
They don't know it but they're on my shit list.
Sucks I've been mad about it since January 5th.

It's been a month since I sang this sad song.
My gumbo is gone.

Frozen pizza?
Uh. I guess so.

Cooking a Picana this evening, with homemade chimichurri sauce. It is basically a tri-tip with the fat cap still on it, and they are delicious!!!! Gonna saute some red and poblano pepper slices, along with some onions, and serve on flour tortillas with the sauce and some sour cream.

I can’t find a tri tip around here, it must be called something else in southeast LA?

Ask for a California cut.
They'll give you stink eye like when I asked for Canadian bacon and English muffins in Arkansas.

I’ve seen the bottom sirloin butt before. I’m a minority where I shop, so the butcher isn’t catering to me. Now he’ll load you up with smoked neck bones and ox tails.

Dang... that reminds me.
I went to the sporting goods store in Blytheville.
Everyone I know has been there.
It's a pawn shop too.
I needed groceries so I asked them where to go.
They sent me to the closest one that's jet black.
I walk in and ask for weird Yankee items.
Later on I found the white store.
Sucks but even here we have a black store, a white store or six, and Asian stores too.
Pick a flavor.
I go to the Chicago-owned one and pay too much but it's not at all like Walmart. Schnuck's.
Meijer is multicultural as heck.
Start comparing and it hits you.
Schnuck's is actually fully stocked and has a butcher in the building.
You could walk up and ask for a tri tip and they'll cut one.

I've never see tri-tip in the grocery stores around here either, only hear about how popular they are out West. The Picana was something new I happened to notice in the meat section of a local store. I bought it on a whim, googled a few recipes, gave it a try, and found it to be pretty sporty. This was the 2nd time I've cooked it, and will surely do so again

Ribeye yes.
Hell I used to buy entire beef tenderloins back in the 1900s.. lol
Damn that was good eating. Cut the pieces about 2 inches thick.

Smoked hot dogs are good.
Brats too.
Summer fare tho.
Hell it's pollen and tornado season down there.
Close enough.
These are turning out OK.

The maple trees are budding and look like they'll bloom in two weeks maybe.
That's way early. It's only February 16th
There are already reports of people sighting drones, male honeybees, so this year may be a great one for queen rearing and swarms.

They're still sick so we made about 6 quarts of "dad soup".

I didn't name it.
Tastes like chicken soup.
Needs to simmer until all them veggies sink.
Starts with Swanson chicken stock.
My daughter loves them pearl onions.
We like them too.

An entire chicken went into the pot.
It's chicken heavy. Man soup
