Fletchings

Jr needs new fletchings, I have never re-fletched, is that something I should take them to a shop for or but some stuff and do it ourselves? If so what kind if gear?

You need a jig, which may be good to have, but only if you do it a lot. A buddy of mine gave me some of those shrink wraps with blazer vanes attached, and I must say they are badass and very way to use. Just make sure you get the ones with a built in helical.

I can't see doing it a lot, but, the jigs don't spoil I guess. What kind of jigs?

Make sure you wax up that Arizona jig if you go that way. It's bad about glue oozing into the slits for the vanes and making a horrible mess of it all. Seriously, blitzenberg.

Maybe this isn't for me, seems new arrows every other year would be cheaper and easier, I foresee ten different kinds of expensive glue, twenty kinds of vanes, it's a trick like reloading isn't it

Blazers, the 1 degree offset right is what we always used. Get the arrows fletched three times and you've already made up the cost of the clamp. I was never happy with the results of the Arizona we had at the shop, always sloppy.

I got like a 30$ jig and regular blazers(the color I wanted tho) and the cheepest glue they had. Haven't had a problem. Thing with new arrows is they aren't always gonna be the same so they'll shoot differently. If you fletch you can keep them basically the same. Might be a little different than stock arrows but in the long run they're better.

Nailed it. A good tube of goat tuff is $20 for a few ounces. Vanes and practice.

It makes a difference on which jig you buy. After that it doesn't matter

The shop I go to charges a very nominal fee to re-fletch. Worth it in my opinion. He knows what he is doing, I don't. I don't remember but I think its something like 15 bucks for a dozen arrows - fletches included.

I thought those things assa was talking about were a little spendy (of course they were given to him) but would be great in a pinch. Like when away at camp.
