I can't believe you didn't take a pic of the arrow stuck in your siding. And add a touch of super glue to all knots when working on a bow.

That is good and bad advice at the same time. If you do go that route, BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET GLUE ON THE BOW STRING ITSELF. The glue will harden and it makes a weak point in the string and it can snap. I've seen it happen and its not pretty and very terrifying.

Other than that it looks like you're on the right track Olly. All the advice on shooting from a bucket and on the ground is great. I sit flat on my butt and practice every now and then to build up that muscle memory. Archers choice makes a great deer target. Its on a swivel type stand and as you shoot it, it turns making every shot different so you can practice those corning away and too shots.

We always burned the end of servings and knots to melt and flatten. It's easy but be even more careful than with the glue.

That's where it really starts to get fun. My bow really starts to drop after about 30/35 yards. When your shooting at 50 the arrow looks like its going a foot high until the last 10 yards then it drops right in. If you don't already, get a couple Lumenoks and shoot just before dark. You can really see how well your arrows are flying then.

12x...that's for kids.

Can't shoot what you can't see, didn't think that was too shabby for a .17 with less than 20 rds thru it.

That's damn good. I've been thinking about getting a .17 but never broke down and actually got one.

Because there's no need for one, that's why.

Olly, those are some damn fine groups, regardless of what these guys say. But seriously- be prepared to come unglued the first time you start to draw on a deer.

x2, those are damn fine groups, but like assa said, totally different when a deer is in your sight. Have you shot from a treestand or off positions?

Not yet, my tree stand is at my parents. I'll grab it next time I'm home.

It's an excellent practice to build the muscle memory, because even to this day, I don't really "remember" drawing and the shot. It's sort of a blur, and I've killed a mess of deer with a bow. "Twist the peep, clip the release, kisser to the corner". That's pretty much my "mental" routine.

I shot a Winchester .17 last week. It was awesome. I may have to get one for ranch work.

I disagree. I've only killed one deer with my bow but I was pleasantly surprised with my composure. ... until I heard the arrow smash that tiny buck's ribs. Then my knees went to jello. I literally shot thousands of arrows in the backyard and it was all muscle memory come game time.
