What's the difference in 2/4 inch vanes?

Postby Goldfish » Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:20 am

Cabelas has both on sale, and I should pick up new ones since my old ones are, well, old. Is there a benefit to the longer or shorter vanes?

I like the shorter ones with my broad heads. They seem to fly "flatter" if that makes sense.

Sent from my phone.

Shorter for sure. Blazer, if it's an option. And make sure they have a helical or offset, not straight.

the 4" ones are double the length of the 2" ones.

Well, I guess I know what the captain is for, captain obvious.

But seriously, thanks. Cabelas has both on sale for the same price so I'll go with the shorties.

Guess I gotta be the oddball here. I like the 4" ones better (haha...I know)...little fuck ups in the feathers don't make as big of difference to the flight with the longer veins.

I shot feathers for years, but those Blazer vanes really do make a big difference.

What about the fact that I use a whisker biscuit? Would the gradual slope of a 4"vane go thru better than a short blazer vane?

And Cabelas changed the prices, 4" vanes are $30, but 2" blazers are $35

While you're there, buy a new dropaway rest, too.

Check out Schaffer performance archery's drop away rest. When I've got $120 I'll be getting it. Till then, I'll be putting the shaft thru the whisker biscuit

Not much. I don't like putting in all that effort and work, and then having some piece of equipment fuck me up when it counts.

I like the Muzzy Zero Effect rest. They've gotten pretty affordable lately. There's no string to break, which I'm a big fan of. I've had mine for about 4 years, and never had a problem with it.

I'm the same way...only I'm that way with everything I do. I figure if I'm gonna put a little money into something, I might as well put in a little more and do it right. Otherwise I always just end up pissed off, then buy the good stuff anyway.
