I leave my case in the Jeep. Because you never know when a target of opportunity will present itself.

I missed out on a lot of GWT this year because I walked in with my gun in a case instead of on a sling. My gun did take less of a beating though.

I have young eager pintail and emu shooters to take care of that type of thing. When I am ready I turn on the duck switch and commence to shoot.

Exactly. I can't remember the last time I cleaned the barrel of one of my shotguns.

You really should clean it every ten rounds or so, today's steel wads are made of a plastic polymer that while strong and resistant of pin holing from the steel shot does tend to leave a fine layer of build up in the barrel, this build up while almost undetectable leads to patterns with holes in them, holes the shape of a pintail

Then I better start spinning it 90 degrees when I shoot, gangster style.

This right here works good for me. Stopped at a store to grab some 3 in 1 one evening and they didn't have any. Spotted this and decided to try it. It works great!!!

For the owners of Gas-powered semi-autos:
If y'all had seen the recoil spring assembly in my Beretta the first time I took it apart you'd all be changing your "once or twice a year" cleanings and start getting OCD.

The "never been cleaned" crap screwed me out of some really good shooting until I got it all figured out.
Plan on at least taking the stock off and looking. NEVER oil that part. Just makes it attract more power residue.
Replace it every year or two if you can afford it.
That's the weak-link in my shotgun. Other than that it's perfect.

I'm extremely OCD when it comes to cleaning my guns, tools and just about everything. I clean mine just about after every hunt and atleast after every hunting trip. Gas or inertia it doesn't matter to me. If I own it, it's clean, put away, and in good shape.

I clean my benelli like clock work - every 150 ducks.

My 870 gets stripped and cleaned after every hunt. I suspect that's because I grew up hunting salt, and still hunt salt. You don't clean it well every time, it's going to be worthless very, very quickly.

AT strips his 870 down daily cuz he hunts salt. That makes him a SALTY DOG.
This one's for you AT. The missing scene...

We only use Tru Recoil Extreme Waterfowl Gun Oil. It is the best stuff hands down if you ask me imo.

Its the second best thing, only thing better is CLP Breakfree, at least in cold weather.

That's pretty much my MO, though I do try to break them down for a thorough cleaning at least once a year. Believe I'm going to give "Frog Skin" a shot this coming season.

(Occurs to me that I still haven't got the guns out of the truck from last season, let alone cleaned them, so that may or may not actually happen.)

We think so much alike.
Load the gun the instant it is uncased.
Have literally loaded up, took two steps, and limited on pheasants before not knowing we had drove right up on them.
Have done it on ducks in ditches too. Ya never know when a huge buck might suddenly appear as well. Or an emu...

NO. I have never seen it.

But I have seen the good of CLP on guns that were dropped in marshes, guns left in trucks with a coat of frost on them, guns that have dirt, blood, feathers, coffee spilt on them. Guns that have been dropped in snow drifts.

Not knocking Tru Recoil. But Texas dont get as cold as what we have here, and I have seen, first hand, many a great lubricant FAIL in 10 degree weather.

CLP is the shit. Anyone can use whatever they want. I am sure some of them are good.

I will always use CLP on my waterfowl guns.

This explains the immaculate condition of the gun in your pics! :)
