Benelli's Intertia Driven System??

Postby Tyler8492 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:32 am

Hey guys, I am looking to buy a new shotgun for the next Waterfowl Season. I hunt geese and ducks. I am looking at Benelli's shotguns and its says about how good their interia driven system is?

I have no idea what this intertia driven system is. Would anyone be able to tell me what it is and what it does.? Also if you know from experience list the pros and cons.

I have little to no knowledge of shotguns but inertia means the action is worked from the recoil of the fired shell. Gas driven uses the gases from the fired shell. That's about all I know and it could be wrong.

All I know is you're 0 for 3 on spelling inertia.

This. Also inertia guns will have more recoil and shoot cleaner.

That's about as much as I know about them also. Recoil has never bothered me, but the price of a Benelli auto has

Tyler,
Go to. Youtube and look at the Benelli factory production films.

I happen to really like my Benelli M2 field. I have dropped it in the lake, in mud, and in snow. It always fires for me. I like the way it fits.

Cons are parts are pricey and it requires cleaning.

I bought mine new. I am approaching 10,000 rounds through it and I have no complaints.

For what it's worth, there are quite a few gas operated autos out there that are just as reliable as a benelli without costing an arm and a leg. I like benellis inertia system for the simplicity of it, but shooting it side by side with my Beretta, there is more felt recoil. You probably won't notice it when out hunting but it is there.

Just my .02

Berretta and Benelli are owned by the same parent company BTW.

Tyler, here is what you do. Find a shooting range and go there every day for two weeks. Ask people questions and tell them you're gun-shopping and would they mind if you shot a few rounds through their shotgun...Try as many as you can and you'll fall in love with one. Kind of like speed-dating except with shotguns.

As others have stated, the inertia system is simple, clean, and effective.
There are no gas ports, pistons, and valves, so all of the dirty stuff goes out the end of the barrel with the load.

The pros are that it runs clean and stays clean. In the case of the SBEII, with its upper / lower design, the only thing easier to clean and maintain would be a non-repeating shotgun, like a single or double barrel.

The downside of the recoil operated system is that the loads you fire must generate enough recoil to make the action fully cycle, or hangups occur.
This is not a problem in most hunting situations, but some people who take a bunch girly loads to the range to shoot clays have issues with it.
They should have bought a gun more suited to their needs. A Benelli is made to kill stuff.

How ever you spell it, the "Benelli CLICK" don't happen in Gas-powered Beretta shotguns. They go BOOM!

Benelli click happens in the Novas too. Happened to my brother's a few times. Still want to blame it on the inertia system betty?

Mostly happens to nervous Nellies who can't keep their hands off the action handle. Serves 'em right.
