And you Jehler, are a lazy viewer....did you see the Brownells on the label?

Love ya, midget fucker. xoxo

Where in the fuck is my maple syrup? Clyde bought $100 worth of bands for DU and mailed the check yesterday. Not comparing the two of you, just saying he is going to get to use the orange mail box first....

It would probably get there. Not too many mailboxes that resemble that one.

I have re-blued my Remingtons a couple times. I'm not very good at it.

Found wearing latex gloves helps. Also found that drying the steel in the oven once it's cleaned and de-greased helps. The warm metal seems to take the blue better.

Have struggled with this stuff and could use some pointers. Have seen other ppl's work and it made mine look crappy. I KNOW there's something I can do better so let's talk about gun bluing please?

When I did the barrel of my Kentucky Rifle, I put the hottest water I could in the bathtub, and set the barrel in it for about 5 minutes, then blued it. It was bare metal, so I had to do this 4 times, but it came out very nice. After the first time, you'll be convinced you just fucked it up, because it looks so awful. I used the bluing in the little blue plastic bottle. Can't remember what it was called, and I'm not walking out to the shop to look at the moment.

Birchwood casey is what you uses.

My research pointed me to the Brownells product. I about shit when I put the first coat on as it turned the metal a green color, like the sheen on a ducks feathers. Its a work in progress.

Exactly. That first coat will make you question what you just did, in a borderline state of panic. Looked like an oil puddle in a post-rain parking lot.

I think I lightly sanded between coats, too, although I don't remember this for certain.

I should camo my Kentucky rifle. I believe that would qualify as unique.

I just went flat black on one of my SBE's.

I've let guys borrow it and after shooting it for a weekend they never realized it had been painted.

My neighbor asked me to blue it. He saved my ass when my pasture caught on fire, and he is an all around good guy.

Additionally he has some pretty serious cancer and I just thought it was the right thing to do. He had half his stomach removed in Jan.
If it was mine I might have painted it.

This was the first gun he ever owned and it was looking rough. Like I said, I about shit when I saw it turning green...

The blueing process has a sciency name that means putting a layer of oxidation on to prevent further oxidation.
That's the way I understood it.

I've done several coats on my gun before and it does make a difference but I could never get to that full, uniform, deep, dark blue that's almost black. I used Birchwood Casey and thought it was kind of weak. Have seen a video where they use a paste and it works super well.

Soaked my gun parts in the tub of hot water and used dawn to de-grease. Then used oxy-clean to rinse. That really seemed to help a lot. Haven't tried re-blueing lately because I got the black Beretta now. I guess they have some kind of product to re-do the black too?

Believe it or not, this product is supposed to be blue OR black, depending on the metal...whatever that means. Its always a surprise I guess.

I am not happy with what I have seen of the cold blue so far. In fairness, this is a cheap gun and it might work better on a browning, etc.

I think its probably good stuff for touch up on existing guns. If you are reading this and thinking about using oxpho-blue, get the paste, not the liquid. I think it would make it a lot easyier to use.

I used the Birchwood Casey stuff on my single shot .410 a while back to try and keep it from rusting. Didn't work very well. I don't trust the cold blue stuff at all.
