Lead could be missing for a while...

Postby R. Chapman » Thu Jan 02, 2014 3:53 pm

At the club meeting today, we were discussing how we were going to get shot to sell? We placed our order over 6 months ago for 5000 pounds and we were expecting it over a month ago. The scary part is some of the guys want to switch to steel target loads only. That would be the end of trap shooting in m opinion. I just can't imagine having to shoot steel in Handicap. Plus it's getting harder to find shells to sell here in town. All I can do hope for the best.

Soooooo you can kill ducks at 40+ yards with steel. Why not a clay?

2 or 3 shot steel, I just can't imagine using 7.5 or 8 size steel shot. That'd be a pain the ass from the back fence. Plus a lot of these trap guns can't handle steel.

I could probably do fine on a calm day but get a blizzard or some shit over my head trying to smack Them from the porch would be hell for anyone. Especially since I wouldn't be able to send them any faster than 1290 FPS.

You would be surprised at how well steel target loads smash clays. I would shoot 1oz of 7s, and 1 oz of 6s when windy

Yes. There is a local club that has been steel only for years.

Plenty of guns there run 100 straight on a regular basis...

But are they doing it from the 27 or in singles? I've haven't heard of anyone runnin a 100 from the back fence. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

Look harder. Sounds like it will be challenging, and something new for you to master.

Wind would be steels only downfall for clays and dove shooting. 1 oz of steel 7 will typically give you more consistent patterns out to 40 yards. Since you don't believe in wind drift, it shouldn't be a problem.

Special seeds containing most zinc. Once fertilized they grow and become lead bulbs that can be picked out the ground like potatoes.

Go watch the big boys shoot at the American grand, and I thought 7.5s will kill shit deader than a hammer. Should be fine on clays

I have been to the grand, twice. Sparta is a living hell in August. 2 years ago when I went, the last day I was there it was 110 degrees plus 97% humidity. After I finished my handicap, Johny thought it would be funny to brand my caf with his barrel, but it hurt him more when I put that TMS barrel portings that had hot gas all over and brand his neck. I did watch some of the big dogs like Leo, Harlan, and Nora. I also got to watch the $100k grand caps challenge. That was the luckiest 12 year old I've ever seen. I'm surprised he didn't shit himself when Kieth Perry dropped the last target.

Your heat index calculator must be broke then. It was 38 or 39 celsius and the humidity was 100%. I was in it.
