Best argument I've ever seen for a 3.5" gun would be that they are supposedly designed to hold up to greater pressures and if you hand load that might be beneficial but as far as hunting there isn't a species of waterfowl you can hunt that REQUIRES 3.5" shells.

Find someone with a Beretta A400 and see if they will let you shoot it. You'll love it.

3 1/2" guns are Mas Macho. That's all you need to know.

Both guns you are looking at are great guns. 3 1/2 is completely unnecessary in my opinion but to each his own. Biggest difference between the Remington and winchester is weight. The versa max is like swinging a boat anchor to me, but I do like them.

I can tell you that I've seen no less than half a dozen VersaCraps sent back to Remington for a variety of issues. I have never seen a Winchester/Browning or Benelli auto sent back. Just sayin...

The Benelli M2 I used to have was a nice gun besides the fact that it rattled your teeth each shot shooting heavy 3" loads, it was still one hell of a gun. My recommendation as long as with other is on of the couple Benelli automatics.
