Looking to upgrade from an 870 to an auto this summer. Ive got it narrowed down to the Winchester SX3 or the Remington versa max. Ive shot Remington since I started shooting. Ive also shot Winchester and like them both. Any help would be great thanks in advance

Go to a store and shoulder every gun you can. Buy the one that feels best.

I haven't heard real great things about the versatile max. Never seen or used one though.

If they both feel right, I'd go with the SX3 to save some money.

I'm curious what you have heard bad about the versa max?

I've heard that they jam a lot and various parts breaking. I don't know much about autoloaders and don't remember specific problems. Just randomly heard negative stuff about the gun.

Ok, I was wondering because I haven't heard anything bad since they fixed the firing pin issue they had the first month they came out. Most people seem to really like them that own them.

This is good advice, any modern auto loader from one of the big names is going to preform about as well as the next no matter what brand someone is loyal to. Get the best fit at the top of your price range.

Don't know about that, but certainly better than Browning/WInchester or Remington.

Fine by me, I'm just going by what's been through my blinds. They all screw up if you watch enough of them, just some more than others.

Guess I'll add that the 3 1/2"s wouldn't be my pick from anyone's litter.

I think you gave him credit for too many ducks. Gotta keep him honest, in three months he will be bragging that is was 12 ducks if we don't watch him.
