Been a national sporting clays competitor so im not new to shotguns by any means BUT....getting back into waterfowl and need help in this arena. I love my beretta shotguns so im considering an A400 xtreme unico. Will be shooting a lot of 3.5". I have read that many of the early A400s had jamming issues with 3.5". Has this gottem better with the newer generation or am i better off with something like a 391 xtrema II? Thanks all!

Have owned both guns, neither had trouble with 3.5's. The A400 is my every day duck gun, sold Xtrema2 to a buddy and still going strong. On third season with A400 and had Xtrema2 from July 2006 to Dec 2012 so have a good bit of experience with them. If you already have Beretta's and they fit you, I don't think you can go wrong with the A400. Also of note I recently discovered their new Xtrema that's kind of a mid-tier high-end gun. Looks like same guts as A400 but on an Xtrema2 frame, lil cheaper than the A400 so maybe worth looking at.

good luck

I've shot a few cases through my A400 xtreme and so far have had no issues. I don't think I'll ever buy another gun for duck hunting.

The new A400 Xtremes seem to get solid reviews. The Xtrema 2 did have a few issues, and I've personally seen one tomahawked into a corn field when it failed to function on a guy's first flock of pintails.

I have A400 Explors in 20 and 12 and have punished the 12 down in brackish waters around Venice Louisiana.......just this weekend the bluing on he barrel is starting to show bad signs of rust. I am a little disapppinted there......but I went in eyes wide open.

Guns never have failed to cycle though.

The Extreme has the better coatings .............

I am left handed, replaced a left handed 2001 model Benelli SBE for a A400 2 seasons ago, dealer swapped safety to leftie, and I shimmed it. I have patterned and done point of impact, it shoots where it is supposed to, I could never shim the SBE to do that. I have never had a problem with the A400 and shoot lots of trap loads in off season with it and it has cycled everything from 1 oz. loads up to 3 1/2. I love mine.

Well, I bought an A400 Xtreme Unico 28" today got a great deal on a new one for $1475. I ran probably 50 rounds through it today without cleaning the packing grease or anything just to give it a test and she ate up everything I threw at it. From light 2 3/4" #8 target loads to 3 1/2 mag BB. I loaded them similar and mixed and only probably I had was one round the bolt didn't lock back. That being said, I was screwing around and doing some trick shooting and didn't have the gun shouldered properly...The shell ejected fine just didn't lock the bolt open, very similar to limp wristing a semi auto handgun. It cycles extremely fast, is super smooth, the kick off does a great job, and it is balanced great. I absolutely love the gun and cant wait to take it afield. I have put 10's of 1000's of rounds through shotguns (as im sure most of you have as well) and to anyone considering the A400, they are worth every penny you wont be disappointed!
