Had a guy that was with me hunting, first timer goose hunting, and he tried to tell me that a shotguns pellets can travel 500 yards. I threw the BS flag but he continued on and on so I dropped it. I doubt that pellets could go 100 yards so what do you guys say?

300-400 yards for steel pellets. Lead and HTL pellets may reach 500 yards?

Holy shit. A ballistics problem.
Let me find my engineering calculator.
Initial Velocity is on the box.

Ok first you solve for t.
You work in the y axis first. Accelarati9n is -9.81 meters per second squared.
I have to get out my forking physics book now
It's been 25 years since I did this chit.

Math is hard and racist so ...
I'll stand 500 yards away and you try shooting me with #2 steel.
Bet you can't hit me.

In reality yes I think 500 yards is possible.
I've been rained on dove hunting before. I guess that counts as dead. The lethality is zero past 60. No chance at 500.

I have shot ducks at 70 or 80.
They go "ouch" and that's about all.
However I saw my father drop a suzi from 100 yards with lead. We never found that duck
