I must be living in a cloud or a vacuum as I just found out about this stuff. Holy snort is it expensive. Ten bucks per round for a turkey load, when you can still use lead? Anyone shoot this crap and secondly no one can use it for waterfowl can they? The price per shell, you'd go broke in a hurry. Ricky, I know you can sort this out for us.

TSS is non toxic so it's OK to use it on waterfowl.
It's very hard and extra dense.
Assateague uses it.
It's not cheap but if you reload your own It's less painful.
Getting recipes?
I think one of the TSS sellers provides load info to customers.
It's complicated.
The reloaders talked me out of trying tss in my old 1148.
Tried bismuth 6s instead.
I don't know much else but it is more dense than lead.
Gimme a minute and I'll post numbers maybe.

Lead is 11.3 grams per cubic centimeter.
TSS can.be as high as 18.3.
Wow.
I'm pretty sure if you get into the reloading you might use buffers to take up some space or ....I dunno but the volume of shot is small.
My bismuth shells , hand loaded, were only 2.5 inches long. I think they had 3/4 ounce of bismuth.
TSS loading must be different

I think some big money guys use it for waterfowl. It’s much denser than lead, so that allows you to use 7s or even 9s with the same knockdown power as 4s or 5s with lead. I can shoot out to 50 yards with my 20 gauge with it. Before 30 yards was iffy.

I don't shoot them at ducks, I can kill Ducks just fine with steel...

I use them on Pheasants and Prairie Grouse...

Take over.
You can share actual experience all I have is second hand reports. I know some guys that could use the stuff. On any given day they lose about half of what they shoot.
There's a ton of that but getting ppl to admit it publicly ain't gonna happen.

"take over"... Not sure that I'm the one that should take over but here goes...

My experience with them is fairly small, I've probably shot less than 60 rounds over the last 3 years... I shoot them in my second and third barrel, first barrel is either steel or lead...
I shoot them in 20 gauge I have electrician shoulders I call them, if I could still carry a 12 gauge around for 5 hours chasing a bird dog I would and use steel or lead...
I've had what I think very good results with them and will continue to shoot them... Plan to order another 5 lb within the next month...

I have approximately $2.70 in 1 oz TSS ...
Probably 3.05 to 3.10 total...? Per cartridge...
I hand weigh everything, so there's quite a bit of Labor involved...

I do not mix shot(would never mix them with bismuth or steel) these are all 1 oz of TSS or hw-15...
I don't think they would be worth the money for the average shooter???
In my mind this is how I justify the expense... With the money that I'm spending on these trips away from home, what's another 50 bucks???
Average shooter might do the same???

Technical info:
1 oz of TSS # 9 has 362 soldiers
1 oz of TSS # 8 1/2 has 308 soldiers
1 oz of hw-15 # 7 has 221 soldiers

1 1/4 ounce of steel #3 has 191 soldiers
1 1/4 ounce of lead #5 has 215 soldiers
1 1/4 ounce of bismuth #4 has 235 soldiers

I couldn't find anything in stock my last trip. As it turned out it didn't matter, except for possible one shot, but I think it was a clean miss. Doesn't matter what you are shooting then

Good observation, so true...
For the price of this stuff it should come with some aiming oil built in, but sadly it doesn't it will shoot holes in the sky just like everything else...

I think it would be really beneficial on a once in a lifetime hunt in certain situations on wounded birds...
I have birds get away from me on a light wind day in the ripples... Especially if you shoot at them a couple times on the water and just sting them... Then all they stick out of the water is their head and they swim off from you in the ripples and you can't see them...

And all of their head don't stick up they lay flat and sort of snorkle or submarine on you. Just their eyes above water.
Shoot m better.

Spinner
I have these, you're more than welcome to them...
360 soldiers...
1 5/8 oz... Probably will kill on both ends...
If you shoot 3 1/2 at geese it probably won't be much different ???

I'm sure that load of 1 5/8 oz is a bad dude with TSS for sure.

Note, per that BOSS podcast episode we discussed in another thread, they're starting to tinker with 7s, and 8s or even smaller shot sizes for duck loads.
