Farm mink brought $80 or so, wild mink about $50. Fisher were bringing around $150, though. Mink actually aren't that high dollar, really. Too many of them on the market from all the farms.

I never realized furs went for that much. How many middle guys get paid between the trapper and the Chinese?

Nope. Possum and skunk are there, but no nutria. Better hope LA keeps a bounty on them, or those bastards will be back in charge in no time, since there's no market for them. Which is strange, since I thought they were introduced here for their fur? Or am I mistaken about that?

Not sure why they were introduced. I hope they keep the bounty, $5 a tail is nice when you get 50-200 nutria a year. Wish the hides were worth something.

None, if you do it right. My furs go straight to a NAFA shipper, who takes them to the NAFA grading shed, and then the Chinese wholesaler buys the lots at the auction. Some people will sell to a buyer who comes around and then takes them to the auction himself. The only reason for this is to get money immediately, rather than waiting a couple months, but you get hammered pretty hard, probably almost 40% or better. Really no sense not to just ship straight to the big auction. I'm doing my little part to get some of our money back from the Chinamen.

No your right. They imported them for their gain in the fur biz and it has back fired. Kinda like negros.

I don't have a whole lot of furs in this early auction, but I've never shipped to this early one and wanted to try it. We'll see. If I can get my expenses back on this first sale, that'd be nice, and have the second sale all for profit.

That's the big thing, paying the expenses. I trap because I like it and it's nice when you can atleast cover the costs and real nice when you get a profit.

He did. Even started their own country for them, Liberia. Which is good for basically nothing but riots and shady registration of ships.

I really didn't have much in the way of expenses this year, since I stayed close to home. Most of my expense in the past has been fuel, but I imposed a 5 mile limit this year, and that kept me under $300 on the fuel.

For one! That sounds like the per 100 price!

Nope, for one. Lot of 50. Granted, that's top lot (the best of the best in each category of animal), but still- there's no raccoon worth $240, unless it's silver plated. They're into the more sane categories, now, 3x and 3x and 2x, but even they are still going for upwards of $75. Mine are only 1x, and slightly damaged, so we'll have to wait and see.

Just started my coon lots. First was my worst, Large, slightly damaged B, and still went for $12.50. Those used to go for about $5. Going to start getting into my better ones here shortly.

I used to trap and sell to a local buyer. Never got very good prices because I was a kid and had no clue what was what.
Was back in the 80's. Saved my traps all these years because hanging them by the eaves scares the neighbor kids away.
330 conibears are real scary looking.

What do you think these are worth AT?

About 45lb and 55lb. Trapped these a few years ago and tanned them up and I thought they turned pretty good. One big one has no damage and the little one has 2 nicks on the edges. Both are winter pelts.

It's so hard to tell- I'm no good at grading  Two furs that look exactly the same to me could go for $9 and $65. There's literally hundreds of different grades a fur can get. Here's the sheet with the breakdown, and all categories of size, color, quality, clarity, and grade can be combined with each other.
