So dad and I went to check traps with the snowmachine. Let's just say riding doubles when you have 4 ft of fresh snow is way to much work. Ended up leaving my dad 4 miles from the truck to walk out so I could move faster.
I only got 1 marten and 2 flying squirrels. None of the 4 snares were working anymore. 1 of them if it didn't fall down would have connected with a coyote. The worst part of the trip was when I tried to go around a fallen tree and got thrown from the sled. The sled took off straight down the mountain 150' to the bottom of a steep gully. I was 16 miles in and it was gonna be dark in about an hour. I thought I was totally screwed. Luckily the sled took no damage and after some praying and hard work I was able together out of the hell hole. It was also only 4 degrees which didn't make it real warm while doing 60mph on the road.
I definitely didn't get rich on this trip. I didn't take any pics because I was to busy just staying alive.

You mean you took me back to the 4 mile mark after we sledded 22 miles on the trail to nowhere.
If I go again, it won't be on the back of the sled.

Is that big for a marten? I always thought they were smaller, like a squirrel, but if so, that sonofabitch is huge.

Checked a couple traps before leaving for Kansas last night. My fox trap didn't connect. The damn fox walked around the backside of the dirt hole. My 1 beaver trap connected with a 48lb beaver

Well the wife and son went out on the sled with me today after we opened presents, to check the few marten sets I have out. We reset a few that I havnt reset yet and deployed a couple snares for yotes. The tally for the day was 2 marten, 1 ermine and 3 flyers. I managed to trap 2 flyers with 1 trap. We didn't have much time so I didn't take pics in the field

Is it time to try some new farms? How much longer do you have left? I have until March 5th for marten and end of April for rats beaver and mink. Coons fox and yotes have no season legally

It's everybody. Guys I talk to from Delaware to Virginia all said the same- just shut off a few weeks ago. Everybody still has tons of sign, just nothing in the traps.

I swear I see nothing in that pic but an empty 110 with what looks like a piece of cardboard on the trigger.

Right above the top of the corrugated plastic is his head and to the right of the plastic is his black tipped tail. He is white so maybe it looks like snow to you

Checked the marten line today. Was pretty slow. Got 1 marten and both my snares were knocked down. I blew a belt on the snowmachine. I've never changed a belt so changing it wasn't smooth or fast but I got it done.

This is gonna be a stupid question probably, but does it snow a lot, often out there? And is it private land? The reason I ask is because that track from your sled looks like a great place to hang snares. But I don't know if it's something that people would constantly be going up and down and wrecking them or not.

Yes it does snow a bit. We get around 500" a year. That trail is actually one of the trails I walk. When I first started walking it I saw some yote tracks but I havnt seen any in weeks now. I planned on snaring there but it seems to be a waste now. The only thing I'll snag will be a moose. It is public land that I'm trapping for marten so I can't set the main snowmachine trails.
Yes paw it was three moose. 1 of the cows appears to have an injury to one of her front legs. She couldn't really climb or sidehill or she would start to stumble. They ended up going downhill.
