So today was the first day we did not get anything on our trap line. I think this hot weather may have something to do with it. We are going to have a cold front come in tomorrow. Should bring us luck

Same here- whenever it warms up, they shut down. I love those clear cold nights, but we just haven't had that many of them. It was only 55 last night, and was so foggy I couldn't see 1/4 mile this morning. I knew I wasn't going to have anything, but had to check anyway. Supposed to be in the upper 60s today, and then rain like hell. Pisses me off, especially with the first shipping date coming up quick.

I never asked for -15     But clear and about 25-30 would be awesome for a change. Rain is nothing but a huge, colossal pain in the ass.

We've got solid rain in the forecast for the next 4 days. Sucks. I didn't even re-make any sets today, just left them.

That will just piss you off. Hopefully they get their hand caught in it. Hopefully it's in a drowning set when they do. And hopefully they're by themselves when it happens.

I haven't even set anything since Saturday. All of my traps are under about 2 inches of water now, and it's supposed to freeze tonight, with a high for the next 2 days of 34. I may not get anything set again until Saturday, and missing a week this time of year hurts.

Assateague do you trap for a living. What's your background. I'm been following some of your stuff. And I hope the guy that stole the trap has that trap go off on his hand so bad. Take the beaver just leave the trap.

No, I just fur trap for fun and some spending money. I can't run many, because I have a real job, unfortunately. I've been fur trapping for "real" for a while now, but I just got my nuisance wildlife removal license last summer. Holy hell, is there some money in that, but again, it's just for fun. If my neighbor ever "retires" I would hope to pick up some of his trap lines, and if prices stayed close to what they are, that'd be a pretty good living. He got over 400 reds last year, and almost 100 grays, but he puts in a ton of hours for 2 1/2 months.

What's the average price of a red and a grey?

Last year sort of got screwy, although they're predicting prices will stay high. Probably averaged about $30 for reds and $25 for grays, over the last chunk of years. But last year, I had some reds go for $100, and I averaged $72. Grays averaged $49. Even my coons averaged $18, and before that the most I ever got was $12. I didn't trap in the 80s, but the guys that did say the prices are just now getting back to where they were then. We'll see how this year pans out.

Sorry posted my pic in the wrong thread.
Congrats on the beavs. What state are you in? Beavers have gotten a lot harder to get since we've been getting down to -22. Everything that isn't spring fed or high salinity is froze.

This just our first year out. Learning a lot on our own so far we have
+ 14 coons I can't remember
8 beaver
3 nutria
1 gray
We just picked up a place that had a lot of beaver ponds. So we will go here next weekend. I'm out of Mississippi. I'll be off for two weeks for Christmas and New Years so I'll be duck hunting and trapping my butt off soon

If it were me, I would give up the water trapping, and try to find some dirt. You'll make twice as much for not even half the work, if it's an option.
