Let them see you around 500 yards away. Then jump in a ditch, they'll run right up to you.

It work for us once. Trying to sneak around and be all serious like. Got busted by a group of 6 or 7 birds. Then they just ran right at us. All the way down the levee. Lol, killed them at maybe 3 paces away. Very close.

It worked for us once. they thought we were turkeys I guess. We saw them and crouched down and crawled into a ditch. They ran within 10 feet when we let them have it.

DSD, they're 100% made in the US and if anything like the goose decoys probably 1000x more durable.

I will be the oddball and say Avian X. I picked up a breeder hen and have been satisfied with it.

I have a DSD and it's a nice decoy, but totally unnecessary.

I hunt without decoys about 99.7% of the time

Yup. Ive got the Avian-X jake and breeder hen. I honestly don't think the DSD or Dakota look any better and they are quite a bit more expensive. After watching my jake take a 5 minute ass kicking from a pair of jakes last year I am convinced.

Only killed 1 bird while using a decoy, and that was a $10 blow up decoy. They can be fun though, the fighting and raping of a plastic decoy is fun to watch.

I use those foam and rubber ones you got for like $15 out of the big box in the middle of the turkey section at cabalas.

Same. Maybe 2. I just roost them at night then go in the morning. They gotta fly down at some point :lol::lol:

It's the time of year where this video applies.

TK and Mike demonstrating how you call turkeys...

Not really any drawbacks except carrying it. If you roost the bird, there is no reason to bother with a decoy. I won't even go out anymore unless i know exactly where a bird is. I'm far to lazy to go out for nothing lately

With me, I hunt a ton of open prairie and like the decoy just as something for the birds to see from off in the distance. If I hunted heavily wooded areas I doubt I would use a decoy because outside of 50 yards a gobbler wont be able to see the decoy anyways.

This.

I'd say probably only about 5% of my turkey kills have been over decoys, but recently it's probably closer to 50%. Been trying to get more on film and have picked up bow hunting as well, so decoys have become a staple for me now.

That's why i use the collapsable foam ones. They are less than a pound and fold up into your backpack. I hunt mostly woods so don't really care about detail in decoys. Being mobile is the most important thing in turkey hunting to me.
