A friend of mine takes out a stuffed Jake and hen decoys. Its a hassle to deal with. The results can't be denied. If a tom can see it. They would fly across a highway to kick that Jake decoys ass. Kind of amazing.

First you tell me I should just jump in a ditch and now you're telling me I need two decoys, I'm so confused.

The foam ones are much more comfortable to sleep on if you don't put them out!

This here might be the strongest case yet for buying some decoys.

Not really any drawbacks except carrying it. If you roost the bird, there is no reason to bother with a decoy. I won't even go out anymore unless i know exactly where a bird is. I'm far to lazy to go out for nothing lately

I can't remember the last time I hunted a roosted turkey, usually listen for birds on the roost while walking in and then set up accordingly.

One drawback of decoys is they can keep sub dominate birds from coming in, seen it quite a few times. If the right bird sees them, they can be very effective.

I love to run and gun. I've gotten used to sleeping in, getting breakfast and hitting the woods around 10am, killed a lot of birds between 11-1

I always get up early, but never got a bird close till later in the morning. 11 seems to be the magical time. Soon as I'm ready to go in they start gobbling and hitting the woods looking for leftover hens.

Of course 11 is the start of the magical time. Since the People's Republic prohibits turkey hunting after noon. Go figure. Although I did once shoot two hens, at about 5 pm, from a deerstand, in the winter. Would've shot more, but they were flying away too fast. Noisy, pain in the ass fuckers when you're trying to deer hunt, and I had had enough.

We can only hunt toms until noon also. Go figure.

I love turkey hunting, too bad IA is a freaking nightmare for NR turkey tags. I bought a Sony cam to film hunts, both birds never gave me the right chance to start filming. 2nd bird was 8 steps full strut staring me in the eye, would have been great footage.

when i was a kid we didnt hardly have any turkeys. first contact i ever had with real wild turkeys was on a deer hunt. i was walking a timber to start a drive and they came out of the roost right over me. scared the living shit out of me.
the last few years i have only hunted them with a bow. fucking turkeys are everywhere nowadays.
still enjoy watching them come a running to the calls. stupid fuckers lol
