Back At It

Had some issues at home and work that were stressing me out and needed my attention. Haven't had much carving time available due to those and some health issues but I have gotten one mallard ready to paint and have 5 more ready for wire and canvas with the heads still to carve. The bottom board, backbone and breast piece are all cedar, the heads are basswood.

Great to see you back Rick. I'm amazed at those canvas deeks. I can't wait to gun over your Lil' Red deek this January.

Thanks QH. Im glad to see its holding up. I made some blue wing and green wing teal to gun over but there's some inconsistancy in whether they will float right. I think the foam I used for the breast piece on some is soaking up water maybe.
These mallards are going to have a red cedar breath piece that I hollowed after shaping. See how that works out after the split.

Too bad you're not closer. I have 30+ cedar boards that we had portable milled at our old place back in 2003. They've been stacked and drying indoors ever since. I think the bulk of them are 2"X10" X10 foot+. We cut down two cedars and the previous owner paid to have them milled. I did some "horse trading", so to speak and, the boards are my share of what was done.
I'm planning on selling them all, once I get an idea of what they are worth.
I haven't figured out how to get a price on them yet.
