Duck Butts

Postby 6Bands » Wed Jul 03, 2013 2:01 pm

Anyone out there use lots of duck butts in their spread? After driving around last season and watching feeding wigeon and gadwall (our most numerous ducks here) I bought 2 dz butts and am painting them to look like Wigeon, lots of black and white. Im thinking using 2 dz butts and 3 dz regular dekes in my deep water spread. Any comments?

I have around 50 or so duck butts, I don't always put all of them out but in shallow water I put out a good amount of them. Never seemed to scare birds. Mine are mallards, blacks and pintail. I never painted any of them into different birds but I don't see it hurting you.

I've thought the same thing. Mostly because I'm cheap, and primarily shoot divers, I don't have any, but whenever I see ducks while out driving around, there are at least a couple asses visible.

I have 4 and will probably get a few more for this season. I hunt flooded cut corn quite a bit and figure the more feeding birds the better.

I used 5 dozen decoys and only had 3 butts out last year. I put them on jerk strings. Probably would have had more but didn't want to go buy any.
