It's In There, Somewhere

Postby RickC » Tue Jul 23, 2013 12:02 pm

One of the things that keeps me at the carving is trying to find that species head in a piece of wood. Somewhere in this one is a Blue Winged Teal drake, just have to find him.

And along with using sharp instruments comes.the occasional "Oops!" Done with a Bob Barts T1 knife after putting it on the strop.

Ouch! So I should invest in band SIDS before I start carving?

Band aids, super glue etc. I keep a packet of blood clotting powder in my tool box along with an SF tourniquet I brought back with me just in case I have one of those " hmm hope they can sew that back on" moments.

Blocked it off after work. Should be ready to paint after a couple hours baking in the sun.

Im calling this one done. Glad I did one and not the whole half dozen at once. The pattern needs some tweaking and the paint will be a bit different on the rest.

Sweet looking bird Rick. I've got to take a stab at doing a canvas bird one day.

Four more drakes pretty much done as far as painting. Painted these with Rustoleum. Have one left that I will try to paint up in a hen style.

Rick, out of all the decoys I've seen carved on duck forums over the years your canvas blocks are by far my favorite. Please keep the pictures rolling.

Thanks guys. I have to give credit to Heck Rice for inspiring me to stay with the wire and canvas decoys. My painting while far from it is inspired by Geoff Vines work. Many years to go before I get there lol.
