Not a decoy but...

Postby Baysider » Thu Jan 02, 2014 10:06 am

got one in trade....

A few months back a nieghbor approached me about carving an arrowhead out of wood from a tree he and his wife had to have cut down. It was a red cedar and apparently her favorite tree in the yard. The original arrowhead was found by his wife with a broken tip. In return for making the piece for him he offered his last John English scaup. In his younger day in LI he gunned over an entire rig of these. If only he still had them.....The bird doesnt have any paint left on it but its a cool decoy regardless.

He brought me two 15" long x 6-7" diameter logs to make the piece from. I went a bit further and milled, joined, and hand planed the pieces together for the mount. The feathers are from a teal and black I had killed earlier that week.

Here is the decoy I got in return.

Wow both are awesome.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams
