Working on my first

Posted: Sun Mar 02, 2014 3:38 pmSince I had the head done I decided to keep going on my first cork/wood decoy. It's difficult right now without the full use of my right arm, but I'm doing what I can without hurting myself. Since I can't lift or pull with the right arm I can't use the draw knife. I can see where that would lessen the body shaping time dramatically. Oh well, just had to take my time with the Foredom. Obviously have a ways to go yet, but here's where I'm at right now. No bottom board on this one, but I think I'll drill a couple holes from the back of the tail into the body and glue in 7/16" dowels. I'll do a bottom board on the next one. Fixed head position. To put the head on I inserted two 7/16" dowels in the bottom of the head and glued them into holes in the body. I also applied 5 minute epoxie to the bottom of the head and clamped it. After everything was dry, I wrapped it all in with Apoxie Sculpt and feathered it in. Haven't done the finish sanding yet.
This would be a lot easier, and go a lot faster, with two good arms. LOL!

You're gonna like the way it rides with the tail carved in that way.
