No flocking on these birds...just good old paint. When I opened the box after they arrived at the shop I thought...WHOA!

Ah, you're gonna like this. The wife and daughter were in charge of speckles today. They tried small brushes first, but didn't like them. So, they took wooden tooth picks and broke off the point, then rubbed the broken end on the workbench and flattened it out. After that it was dip...dot...dip...dot. I thought it was pretty ingenuitive.

I'm using Ronan's Japan Superfine paints. Oil based. I get mine from Di-ck (not really hyphenated) Blick's art supply in New York. Bulk discount if you order 6 or more quarts.

There is a decoy painting section and if the exact answer isn't there, there are a lot of carvers there to ask.

Olly can correct me, but I don't believe there is any harm in posting helpful links of the such. Hopefully the guys that visit these other boards take what they learn and bring it back here to share their trials.

I have repainted some plastics but not enough time in the field with them to say how they held up.

Awesome timing Gene, I picked up some picked up some of the exact same Decoys this year used. They spent an AZ summer out in the elements and need some paint. Yours look great. If mine turn out a fraction as good I'll be stoked.

They look awesome Gene. I was taught to put spots such as the ones found on birds made years ago by using different size dowels dipped in paint. I guess you all figured out the same method on a smaller scale. Perfect circle everytime.
