Very well put. Some folks think its all about shocking the dog cause you got a button.
Thats not true.
I worked and worked and worked with my dog on 5 basic commands (for starters)
After about 6 thousand times, I knew that she knew what sit, fetch, here, whoa and heel meant. There was no doubt in my mind.
Sometimes, she would just decide that she didnt want to listen up. The invisable hand reminded her that when I give a command, she is supposed to respond. For the record, the first thing I did when I got the e collar was hang on to it and juiced myself.
QH, my dog really does want to please me. She is a natural born retriever. I think the e collar made her 10 X better, at the least, much more focused on the job at hand. When I decided it was time to teach her more commands, the learning curve was much quicker. I seldom nic her now.
Also, the collar can be used for positive re inforcement. When she does something good, I use the tone feature. You can see her tail wag when she hears it. When she is getting praise and attention, she would get a tone. Milk bone for good behavior, tone. I use the tone when she is working on a difficult blind retrieve on a bird she didnt get marked. When she goes in the right direction, tone. I know it works because you can see her speed up when I apply the tone.
She was always intended to be a hunting dog. My methods might make a HT guy cringe, but I dont care. She hunts well enough to suite me.
