Great story GKR. Say what ever you want about labs, they are very loyal if nothing else.

Not trying to be a 'one upper' on your story but a few years ago a guy I used to work with didn't come home from a duck hunt on time. His wife starting to get nervous, called a friend of his and told him Fred still hasnt come home and he won't answer his phone, 4 hours late by now. Steve (my ex father-in-law) went to go check on him, he found Bear (Fred's lab) sitting on the the bank next to Fred's shotgun. The waders floated the body.

There was an open hole in the ice about 20 yards off shore. We hypothesize that Bear went out and couldn't get back up on the ice shelf. We think fred leaned his gun against the tules and went out to save his dog, but couldn't get himself out of the water.
