Good advice Matt, it was the dokken dove that did it for Taz.

Right now that thing for her is a pine cone, but she definitely has the best retrieving habits with it for some reason. The thing she has the most trouble with is a tennis ball. I'll definitely get some sort of bird/wing for her! Thanks for the help guys, lots of good help in this thread and I appreciate it! I'll keep ya updated here in the dog forum.

Probably wouldn't use a pine cone or anything else she may stumble upon in the field or items that she has access to on her own. One day you'll give her a mark that she'll have to really hunt for and if she runs across a pinecone chances are that's what she'll bring back to you. Rolled up socks, paint rollers and the dokkens doves are liked by most puppies and are usually a good choice. Pick your tool use it for training and put it away when your done. Check craigslist for birds just don't tell them your plan for their cute pet pigeon is to cripple it and let a dog hammer it until it expires so you can freeze it for later retrieving of its corpse..

There is a ton of material available for trainers these days, from the Internet to all the literature and DVDs out there. Seek out your local retriever club, pay the small membership fee and meet folks to train with even though you aren't gonna campaign your dog the socialization your pup will get will be well worth it and every club needs guys that don't mind helping and being an active member. Help work hunt tests and training days and you can usually have the opportunity to score both live and dead birds to take home. A nearby pro would be a good choice too. There is alot you can learn by just being a bird boy, paying attention and asking questions. Just study all you can and take your time. Get with a good group of guys and its more than dog training, I've met some great folks through dogs.
