Josh I think you're confused. You're job here is to overly critique and criticize our dogs and our training techniques to a point where we hate you.

yea I hear ya. My best hunting buddy's wife has a griffon she uses for agility. What a waste. Although he is nationally ranked amongst griffons.

Jerry, what exactly is taz. GWP?

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. They are typically smaller than a GWP, they both have waterproof coats, but the GWP has no undercoat. Taz head does resemble a GWP though with lack of bush on top.

Hey Jerry, the book came today. Thanks a bunch, brother! The wife is completely on board with this (she hates chessies and is indifferent to labs). After researching them a bit, and now reading the book, I'm positive one would be a great fit. We were just now flipping through, and she says "that looks like your dog when you were little", based off of pics she's seen. I dug out the pics, and she was kind of right.

Maybe subconsciously, that's why I wanted one when I saw pics of yours  Gus was probably the best dog I've ever had. Not a hunting dog (my dad doesn't hunt), but always wanted to hang out and walk around in the woods with me. Dad brought him home when I was 1, and he died in 83, when I was 14. These pics were just before he passed, and while I'm sure he wasn't, a lot of those pics in the book remind me of him.

Damn, they got that book there fast. Lots of good info, 2 or 3 of the dogs pictured in that book are Taz's relatives. While looking for litters, search for breeders that waterfowl hunt, or breed to conformation, as with any breed there are differences in coats. While Taz may not have a crazy bushy coat, it is still coarse and thick, it happens top lay a bit flatter, the undercoat is coming in nicely. Do some research and do not get in a hurry, I studied for 2 years before I got Taz, and when I did the breeder picked him out for me. Be honest with them about what you are looking for in a dog, a good quality breeder spends a lot of time with the pups, they can steer you in the right direction. I think you will be very happy with the breed, they are born to hunt, are very athletic as Red has seen from his friends agility dog, high prey drive and eager to please.

his dog is solid muscle. It's hidden under that shaggy coat, but Barrett is a stud. I wish he'd bring him out to train with me, but momma's got him too tied up in agility

That is a shame, dog should be hunting. I had to sign a contract saying that Taz would be a hunting dog, most NAVHDA breeders do this. Would prob be a great friend for Charlie, most griffs I have seen have great attitudes and tempermants. I am still amazed at Taz when he is swimming, he looks like a He-Man doll when he comes out of the water, than he shakes and his hair goes crazy again.
