He's become quite a looker.

Thanks, Rick. He's very well put together, so kudos to the breeder for that.

He's starting to remind me of his Nonc Peake, aka: the coyote, as a pup:

I'd whole heartily agree if it didn't put us 2 to 1.

Lacy is far too smart for our antics anymore and made it two attempts to get the fox in line before she zoned out.

I'm sure you're right. Was a lucky catch that will probably be "the" puppy Marsh picture on down the road.

Nice pics, but what struck me is that he's gotta be a tough dog, because that vest doesn't look snug enough to slow raw water circulation.

It's mostly loose on his neck, need to resize it again, very tight on chest and torso. He doesn't always wear the vest, mostly when he'll be breaking ice.

That's absolutely huge. An overwhelming majority of the professionally trained dogs I've seen in the field came undone in the hands of owners who didn't know how to employ and maintain that training.

"I've got $10,000 in this knot head, and he won't do a damn thing." Who's the real knot head?

The plan is to go and work with them every other Saturday, at least, would prefer once a week, but every other week for sure. Typically it doesn't turn into a half day thing, but it was raining yesterday, three of the trainer's clients cancelled on Friday due to predicted weather, so he didn't have anyone scheduled after me, so I stayed and watched/assisted him work the other dogs for nearly 5 hours yesterday. Had a great time, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the process, and why you do X and Y early on, how it transitions to Z down the road. Understanding for myself why it's important to have the OB solid, not just good, before moving on. Really realizing what the guy means when he says "it's a marathon and not a sprint".
Hold starts on Monday.

Here are my boys. Mason the chocolate is 5 1/2 months and Rusty the fox red is 10 weeks... Can't wait to get them out in the marsh!

Yeah Mason is going in for formal training June 4th and Rusty is going to be getting some solid obedience work at home and won't see the marsh this year... and will be going for training in the Spring...

They grow up in a flash. Was flipping back through the photos in this thread and came upon this puppy pick of Marsh last Spring:

Which reminded me of a similar framing of him last Fall:

All the boards have slowed to a crawl, so I've been waiting on sunrise and easing into my days by reading old logs, where I came upon this favorite shot of the coyote on a slow afternoon in 2010. He's not doing a dang thing, but I still think it speaks to our partnership better than most:

Expect to use Marsh when/where gators could be an issue and just use my old, deaf friend in the rice during September teal and sparingly in the marsh once the water's cooled. Peake's only 9 and still tougher than most but is starting to show his mileage, so the plan is to keep his hand in without wearing him out. We'll see...
