As some of you may have read I had quite the scare with the new baby over the weekend. But now that's she's better its time to get back on track teaching her how to be a good dog. Shes 8 weeks old today. She's sitting on command and coming when called. But im having problems getting her to stop trying to bite my hands and feet and pay attention. I want to discipline her sternly enough to know I mean business but I don't want to make her afraid of me. What have you guys done to correct this?

When a dog bites you, bite it back. Fold her ear over and give it a little bite, enough to make her realize you are serious.

that's what I did only I shoved my had into the back of her mouth so she gags a little only took a couple times. I also did the ear biting thing and that would calm her down a little.

When she mouths your hand cram it down her throat until she gags and tell her no. Usually takes just a couple times before they figure out hands aren't a good thing to have in their mouth.

Some of you guys ate saying just let her be a puppy. And I totally agree with that. But the training book I'm reading says otherwise. I'm not letting her on the bed or on furniture bc I don't want to ever encourage that kind of behavior. I grew up in a house with rowdy unruly dogs bc my dad always said just let it be a puppy but now he's got a 7 year old and 13 year old puppies. My question is where do I draw the line between puppy behavior and teaching her to be a good citizen.

When he bites use your hand to pull his lip between you and his teeth, when he bites he will hurt himself more than you and figure it out, I saved negative re enforcement until the pooch was 4 or 5 months

I've heard that putting your junk in his mouth when he tries to nip your hand will make him stop, as well. I mean, what dog would want your junk in his mouth? Unless he was a gay dog, I suppose.

Discipline and general OB start on day 1. As stated before negative reinforcement comes at a later date. I used the 2 methods that Matt and jehler said.

Dogs are pack animals. When a young dog gets out of line with the alpha, the alpha serves out a stern warning like a growl. If the growl is not heeded a bite will follow. Use this method and I'm sure you will get the desired results.
Make sure and video it for us so we can tell if you are doing it right.

But seriously, I've always used the hand in the throat. Always worked for me, very quickly.

well for one I don't think anyone has suggested let her get away with puppy stuff. They've suggested it's common puppy behavior. Just address it with her. As for furniture, she shouldn't ever be unsupervised in the house

Letting a puppy be a puppy has its place but this isn't really it IMO. Although you aren't in formal training they way you correct the pup now sets the tone for the rest of his life. However you correct him be firm but fair. Right now the only training to be thinking about is socialization and teaching him his place in the family along with what behaviors are and are not acceptable. We all know that razor sharp puppy teeth + young children is a bad deal. Or like mentioned above tea bag him.. Lol

You know what's weird is every time I'm at assa's house his dog repeatedly bites my hand - like a hint or something.

I also wondered why the dingos teeth seemed to be dull, like they had been filed.

I watched my buddies lab for 10 days a while back when he went to NC. He texted me after the first few day to see how she was doing, I responded "shes fine, getting comfortable with us, but why does she get so excited when she sees the peanut butter jar?". He told me to fuck off and I didn't hear from him til he got home.

Her name's Dixie. If she's gay, it's my wife that'd have the problem getting her to stop biting. But it would be infinitely more comical to watch.
