My dog does a funny thing where if I send him back and he goes more than about 30 yards on the line he will start to stop, sit, and turn to seek guidance. Once I raise my hand to give the back command again he'll go another 10 yards and we repeat. I've never had a problem with it but I know it wouldn't fly on a trial, I just keep my hand raised for the entire line so when he looks back he knows to keep going.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams
