Am I expecting to much to early?

about three weeks ago I started making it normal that on every retrieve my dog sat on my left side, stayed until I gave command to fetch, then brought back the bumper, and dropped it in my hand. She did extremely well until about mid last week and since then I've noticed she has steadily been getting bored faster.
My question is at about 5 months old am I asking to much of her? I'm worried that I'm over training and training the fun out of it for the dog.

Perhaps she's just teething and sore mouthed.

Do dogs usually sleep a lot while teething? I've noticed her energy level drop the last couple days.

Can't say I've noticed that. May be Summer, may be a medical issue. Dunno.

I was expecting way too much too early training myself. Could even get her to act civil and stop biting for a while. Now at 6 months old she is really coming around on obedience and just now really building a retrieving drive.

Unless you have an English lab training is a lot of work with many ups and downs
