Back on topic....

My buddy has a chessie, I have a lab. Both good dogs, however....

Chessies tend to be very loyal/aggressive and tend to be a 1 person dog.

Labs are loyal and tend to "love" people, less/non-aggresive

Both hunt very well, but Labs are a better family dogs IMO.

FWIF I would go with a lab.

Thanks, AK. It was a good time. Could have been better shooting, but all in all I enjoyed the weekend.

Three of my four Chessies have been more people friendly than my setters, Brittanies or beagle. And better family dogs in terms of putting up with being mauled by the kids. True, I'm careful about insuring my pups of any breed come from parents I'd be happy owning, but I've found the common breed generalities mostly just common.

I hardly ever brush Taz and vacuum once a week. After a lab and a britt, it is fuckin awesome.

This. Although it's only been a short time, Dutch likes to lay next to me in my chair. I'll sit and work and pet him, he'll take a nap, roll around a bit. And when he gets up, even if I have a black shirt on, there's not a hair on me. Love it. The Dingo just walks by and I have to brush hair off my nose.
