He put up one hell of fight! And,...I don't think it was his first...
He weren't no kitten.

Mr. coon got a pretty good hold of his face at one point, so I waded into the middle of it to help him out.
That almost didn't end well...

OK, I give up. Been curious for over a year now........What the fuck kind of dogs are those? They seem pretty good except of retrieving pintails.

Jäger is a Deutsche Drahthaar.

In a nutshell, they're versatile hunting dogs created by/for poor people in Germany to cover all the basics of hunting.
Up until a certain time, only the rich hunted, and they had kennels full of "specialists". The middle class evolved during this period and they needed a "do all" type of dog. A dog that would search, point, flush, and retrieve birds fowl and hares, track and either kill or bay furbearers, blood track game, track and then bay hogs, kill predators and vermin, and also be stable enough to be part of the family.
The VDD is the German breed club for DD's. In order for any DD to be eligible to breed, they have to be tested within the JGHV system (The German version of NAVHDA), for the purpose of keeping those traits in the breed.

And that's the short version of the European Versatiles.

I was working on a little off leash OB yesterday evening, and my daughter filmed some of it.

He's pretty "jazzed" up because he knows we're heading into the field for our evening romp. ;)

Are they a "hyper" dog? Or lax around the house and jazzed up when its time to hunt?

Yea, that's my backyard, up to the gate....Wanna mow it for me? ;) Beyond the gate is pasture.

Not "hyper", but definitely driven. He has a real distinct off switch, but sometimes you have to use a hammer to flip it. ;)

In all seriousness, he's great in the house. I've been off work with an injury for the last 3 months and it's been way too hot to do much during the day with the immobilization sling I've had to wear that whole time. So, he's been pretty content with just chillin' in the A/C.
But,...He knows the routine to a "T"!!
At about 4;00-4:30,...he starts pestering me that it's time to go feed the pigeons (training birds), and that always gets our JRT fired up (she is absolutely OBSESSED with the birds), so...off we go.
That takes a grand total of about 20 minutes...
Then they get a short cool down period...As soon as he starts cooling down, he starts pestering me that it's time for dinner.
I'll try to get some video of "pestering"...it's comical.

After dinner, he chills out, takes a nap, or does his own thing outside,...But,...
About an hour before sunset,...he knows it's time to have fun! Whether it's a training session, or a run in the field and woods, or a trip to the water, he knows were gonna do something! So, he gets pretty excited in the evenings. :D

yea,...it was kind of busy, but I guess that's to be expected on a Saturday evening!
I felt better today than I have since my surgery! I even got a bunch of stuff done at the reloading bench.
And then this evening, a couple of little girls my wife used to nanny for showed up to stay the night...
About 5 minutes later,...Jäger and I were on the road. Ironic huh? ;)

Lot of that going around. House is full of grandkids for the week, and the coyote and I are planning an early escape before this place wakes up. Will beg Sweet Chereaux for forgiveness (and perhaps remind her whose idea having the whole gang at once was) later.

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission! Not surprised the lake was busy on a Saturday evening, nice place to work the dogs though.

Those are words that I live by right there!!

I took a couple of videos, but they're not very good. Naturally, the one I took, he tried to go by himself on the second mark before I sent him and then my battery died. And, it's the only time he did it the whole time! oh well...
