You're not that far off jehler. Part of the reason i stopped going to the church my family goes to. It was silly, it felt like church was trying to be entertainment.

Ok, that's a possible answer.

I do go to church, but because I like it. It makes me feel good. But I do understand the other point as well- I know far too many who use regular church attendance as a high horse to ride around on.

People were giving out bibles on the street corners this morning. What's that say about them?

I'm pretty much the same way. Especially if we got a good preacher. As to the other point I agree with that too. But what burns me up even more are the people with the same mentality who only show up on Christmas and Easter and then parade around about how high and mighty over their attendance.

Nope, the kind where there's always some gimmick to get people to come, a celebrity of some sort coming to speak, a big giveaway, a big party, raffles where you can win a car, auctions. Concerts... They had Lee Greenwood come and sing his song " God bless the USA" during their massive fireworks show this past 4th of July. Oh and every other year the preacher takes a group on a tour of the holy land. Costs like 2,000$ per person.

We just sold a $25,000 projection screen to a church in Dallas. Still probably spent at least $5k on a projector for it.

That was my previous endeavor. HD home theater screens. Fuck those nut drenching garages in Texas summer heat! Gold bond had its limitations.

Not even to win a car. That list is complete bullshit. I'll just sit in my wood backed pew and listen to the preacher.

Yeah, I mean its not like Jesus had thousands and thousands of people following him around hoping to see him perform a miracle. Water -> Wine, restoring mobility to the lame, sight to the blind, turning 5 loaves and 2 fish into enough food for 5,000 people.

They were hoping to hear a 35 minute sermon, sing a few hymns, toss a few shekels in the collection plate and hit Dunkin Donuts on the way home - right??

Of course not. They flocked to him to see a spectacle - and found salvation in the process......hmmmmmm
