I got sent over here from Contro. Issues because I mentioned in passing that I was out shooting raised pheasants the last couple of weeks with a 20 ga Model 12 and 7 1/2 lead loads. It was a killing machine. Pheasants are easy to knock down, hitting them is #1 so a lot of pellets helps. I think I have seen more doves fly away after a blast of feathers than pheasants. I am not talking from a scientific or even tested basis, but under almost all conditions I shoot pheasants with 20 ga 7 1/2's. I have been more than happy with the outcome (or I would have changed). Pheasants are hard to come by in CA, so if I thought a hot 3 1/2 #5 did a better job I'd be carrying a different gun!
By the way. I like to shoot doves with an old 410 bolt action shotgun.
