I've never had it. Everyone just always said they taste like shit. Guess I'll have to try and shoot one next year.
soak it in salt water overnight, soak it in Worcester overnight, fry in pan to medium just like duck. Tastes pretty good

Might as well soak it in gasoline overnight then throw it in the yard and light it. That should help with the taste.

Sounds similar to my recipe. In mine, you cook it in the crock pot all day in Dr. Pepper with chunks of oak in there. Once you've finished cooking it, you throw away the coot and eat the oak chunks.

I usually just saute the fillets in butter with a dash of Lawry's seasoning until they're medium rare or the juice just turns clear for those who want "well done". Have also enjoyed them in jambalaya, gumbo and on the grill.

DNB, anyone who can screw up coot should avoid ducks, too.

I actually think coot tastes good. It was just a joke my dad uses.

Asses, lol. That's how I do all my duck. But usually after I soak it in salt water they go in the freezer and I just thaw them in Worcester

My objective is to turn live ducks into dead ducks. On the water, or in the air, makes no difference to me.

I've only had them once, they're not too common around here. I threw the breasts in a stew with some teal and couldn't tell them apart.

If a bird sneaks in and lands within range I figure that he beat me fair and square so I won't blast it unless it tries to fly away. If he swims away I'm S.O.L., but if a bird's lands out a ways and I can convince it to swim into range, I'll jump. If he flys, great, if he doesn't, whatever.

I wouldn't be able to shoot anything. I'd be paralyzed with fear that I was going to piss myself off by breaking my own rules, as the birds fly away.

Here's my rule- if it's within range, shoot it. I don't care if it flew, swam, took a bus, whatever.

Only birds I've had come to me in a bus were black ducks.

Maybe. Not really a set of rules though. Just one. I won't swat a bird that managed to land in my spread because I wasn't paying attention.

With geese ? No problem , it's a good way to raise your bird to shell percentage but as for ducks Clamps rule is kinda
the rule of the land around here . Everyone here seems to say , landing birds in their decoys is from damn good calling
so , you got'ta give them a chance to git away ? yea right .......

I can see you wouldn't be worth a damn hunting Sask , as 500 or so Mallards and Sprig come into the decoys at
10 yds ? With that kind of mind-set , you would be done in seconds........with nothing to do but watch ?

No one is forcing you to stop shooting.

So you'd rather sit and watch for 2 hours, THEN shoot? Makes sense.

For every rare case where I can shoot a limit in 10 minutes there are 15 other hunts where I work for it til waaaay later in the day. Nobody ever reminisces on the day they stayed til noon and almost shot their limit.

i have found the odds of me shooting a duck greatly swing to my favor the closer they are, swimming to me.

i aint proud
No helicopter looking for a murder
Two in the mornin got the Fatburger
Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp
And it read, "Jeffys a pimp"
