It's genetic. That's why people get labs- nothing has to be taught.

You don't say.

I don't know. It's what I'm always told when I say that pitbulls are bad.

Kind of like Rex's German dialect

Sometimes that skips a generation, though. Labs always retrieve. They called Labrador Retrievers for a reason, not Labrador Cattle Dogs. Duh.

I'm picking up a few Chukar this week. Cut the wings and let dumb dumb chase them in the yard some.

Big yella dog has finally learned to swim and is 11 months old. Talk about having to have patience with a damn dog. Got her in September and could not get her in the water before it got cold last year.

Hell, I eat the pigeons. I don't even know if there are any chukar for sale here, I was just busting balls. I thought about getting some quail, but when they were going for $7 a piece at the auction I shitcanned that idea real quick. I can get pigeons for free from the neighbor, or pay a dollar if he's feeling particularly humane at the time, and doesn't have any he wants to get chewed on, then eaten.

I have a pheasant club about a half a mile down the road. The owner raises Chukar and pheasants. I like training with pigeons also. Especially when you have some one helping you and you can do that deal where a guy gets the dogs attention and let's the pigeon go on the other side of the field. It flys around a few times while the dog can see it. Shoot it, and bam! he can put everything together in his head that birds come from the sky and he needs to be looking up all the time.

I kinda went against what people suggest on how to introduce your dog to deep water. I jumped in the pool and he ran up to the edge. I grabbed him and put him in the water. Had the wife call him from the other side of the pool and he swam to her. Took a little bit to get him to start jump in on his own. But he saw the other labs doing it. So he went right along.

I think having other dogs there swimming also is the biggest help you could have. I don't have really any experience in it, but it would seem to be the case.

Found a guy who has a 12' john boat already painted up. Has a motor on it to but I have to look into it. $350. I just might have to.

My black lab took to water like a fish. She will jump off docks boats whatever. She just does not have the retrieving drive or intelligence of the other dog who is a lab/ golden mutt. She's way more obedient. Will retrieve herself to death. More intelligent. Won't give up until she finds what I want her to retrieve and I've had her on dead ducks since day one. She was supposed to just be a companion dog for my wife and the lab but she's really starting to shine now, plus she is a hoss 11 mos and weighs 80 lbs. And I think my black lab has a mental disorder. It's like her brain just turns off sometimes. Sweet dog but a hunter she is not.

Ended up getting one of my best EUP honey holes when a friend of mine flipped my little 12ft boat a few years ago. The owner of said honey hole rescued us.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

Was running the river in a 12' one time and the dog standing up to reposition was almost enough to flip it. Turned out of it as water was pouring in over the side.

I gotta keep an eye on them. Those knuckleheads will drown him jumping in and out of the pool. They get all excited and don't realize the little guy just learning.

I saw 5 people at the lake a few weekends ago launch a 1432 tracker topper flat bottom with a 9.9 on the back and head out toward the river. The river is quite a ways away from this particular marina and with the amount of traffic on the lake that day i wonder if they made it across. they only had about 6 inches of free board.
I have made that trip quite a few times in my 1640mv but only with 2 people in it and I have a 15 that will run me pretty good and keeps on plane. It's still kinda sketchy if there's a bunch of boats out there though.

Used 4" angle and with the ply I'm at 6" of setback. Could have got 7" easy but because of the angle of the transom I'd have to raise the motor higher.
