That's just temporary, for the drilling. 1 1/4" pipe gets run inside the 3". That way I can quickly pull shit water without worrying about mud, I guess.

It was quite the goat fuck. Got a 3" to 2", 2" street elbow, then a 2" to 1" reducer, then a piece of 1" pipe, then a 1" to 3/4" female reducer, then a 3/4" MPT to 3/4" hose thread.


And I've never worked with that blue cement before, either, but that's what they said to use. It's more "gummy" and takes a LOT longer to dry.

I can probably use a toilet flange to fasten the well casing to the top of my "mounting board" or whatever the hell you call it. Does that count?

I have a small 3 in water pump I use with my 6 in diesel to flood one of my fields. I got the big idea I was gonna reduce it down to a water hose so I could "lightly" water some sorghum and millet last year. It was a goat fuck as well

If I was at a plumbing supply house, I'm almost positive I could have done it in about 3 pieces, and not had to spend an hour monkey fucking around at Home Depot, trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. I hate that place.

Done. 27 feet in the ground. The last two feet or so were in what felt like gravel, that I hit after what felt like about a foot of clay. Getting through the various layers of clay was a bitch, and I'm wore out. Flushing it out now, but not much grit coming up, so hopefully I'm good. If not, oh well, because I don't intend to do this again anytime soon.

A lot wetter job than I thought. Every time I had to stop to add a section of pipe, the ground suction locked it up, and the pipe was stuck. Had to pull the contraption off the end, and run a jet nozzle all the way down to break it loose. But when the pipe starts to break loose and you can move it up and down again(which I found was more important than the twisting part), I'd get bucketfuls of sandy water dumped on my head.

Been almost 3 hours, and the water seems to be holding at about 6 feet below ground level. Although that could be because I'm sitting on a damn later of clay, and no water can get in or out. Hopefully not. I'm done fucking with this thing today.

Any idea how long it will be before you know if it's right?

Not sure. Gonna measure the depth in the morning, then hook up another pump I'm going to get. I think the recharge rate is the important number, so I'm going to pump it dry, and then see how long it takes to get back to whatever level the water started at. That's all I really know to do. And truthfully, if I get 5 gallons out of it, and it takes 3 hours to fill back up, that's more than fine. Not going to be washing cars or anything. Just in case of a hurricane or ice storm or the end of society, something where the power's out for a while. It'll be nice to know we can still have water to drink, flush the toilet with, cook, and clean up. Even 1 gallon per hour is more than enough for that.
