Not much, if anything, says "HUNTERS HERE" quite as well as rolling round holes. Only places the birds see it shoot at them.

While I certainly agree; I was amazed last season at how many birds dove into the hallmark circles the neighbor's blind had in Bunkie to be shot. This after we'd gone through the trouble to do ANYTHING but that, which worked fine too.

Do ducks really like sweet potatoes as I've heard? Not asking anyone to attest first hand

It worked very well for us for ducks and specks in fall of 15 and 16 seasons when we had rice.

One factor is pressure. How hot is the pressure where you are.

My informant died a couple weeks ago, so I guess it's safe to relay his experience in print. Seemed he had a oil field service company that used a big macerator for something and he ran however many tons of sweet potatoes through it and spread the result through a rice pond in a serpentine pattern. Not just he but guests he entertained have told me how wild it was to see ducks rafted on that same serpentine course the tractor spreading potatoes took.

Once hunted a probably baited place that scared me out of hunting it twice, because the birds were coming to die, no matter what. And I was later told the fellow guide (long since canned) who set it up favored sweet potatoes.

Funniest baiting story I've heard occurred when a fellow, who's since been murdered during a botched robbery, had one of business entertainment camp's guide dump five five-gallon buckets of molasses in a flooded rice field cut on an evening when a front was blowing in. Said hapless guide told me that when they went to hunt it the next morning "It looked just like a root beer float." Wish I could type that with the expression he told it.

First I heard of SeaFoam was from one of my hunters who has a chain of equipment rental places, where some seasonal use motors sit up for long periods and they can't afford for them not to run when their time comes around. Been good to us, too..

I heard some reports today of a few here and there.

If I've seen a summer teal here this year, I didn't know it. But migrants shouldn't be but a very few weeks out now.

I'm told that a reputable guide in Buras area (Plaquemines Parish, extreme SE La) reported some teal down that way on a local radio show Saturday morning. Hoping to pull up the podcast from the show to hear exactly what he said
