I snow goose hunted from a container sunk in the ground. I think there were 12 people and I think they could fit 15. I really didn't like it. What I disliked most however was being put together with others we didn't know. There were 7 of us in our group. That should be enough to get your own pit. I've hunted with 7 in our group and a guide from layouts and had no problem. The day we just kept getting singles upon singles, it was a little over kill on the guns
So I started taking pictures. But a good group of guys, we had a good time. With a big group and people you don't know thrown in, it just doesn't work. I've had a lot of fun with small groups hunting with people I don't know. I actually do that a lot at my one club. Me and a buddy hunting with another guy or two (you need 3 on the weekends to be in the first draw for pits, so it gives you a lot of incentive to pair up). Then you all socialize and have a good time. With 12, it just doesn't work.
For me it really depends on the hunting. Early season where I am hoping to get a bird, I really like to hunt alone. With 3 or 4 in the blind, who gets to shoot that one lonely duck that comes by? When hunting picks up and there are likely to be more birds together, I'm fine with more guns. I think for me. Are you shooting at more birds than there are guns? Bigger groups are fine, if they are the right people and you don't have 4 guns shooting at one bird. 8 guns at 20+ birds works just fine. Assuming they are the right people.
