I do like #3's but 3" shells are for people who can't shoot well and need extra help. And based on how many shells you use per bird you may want to bump it up to 3 1/2's....

I'm on a roll this year. If you don't count cripple shots, I'm killing a bird for every 2 shells.
2 3/4 have their place, but I can't get the consistent 40 yard kill patterns like I can with 3". I like to get the birds in close, but sometimes they won't come near shore and I need the extra little punch.

You come up in January and shoot late season geese and tell me how well your 2 3/4" shells hold up. Those things are like fucking tanks, you need every god damn pellet you can get.

Late season birds are their own animal. I was shooting mallards last year in December that laugh at 3's. When I cleaned them their feathers were thick and had a huge layer of fat. Popped the 1's in and did the trick. I want to get a tighter choke though to keep some better density with the bigger shot.

I use BBB for my geese. Had very few cripples and a lot of stone dead birds.

I know you are. If I only hunted tight spots Id shoot 2 3/4 as well. But I normally hunt where I can't see shore in front of me. Birds know cattails mean hunters, so they usually work the ends of the points. Usually they will come into 25 yards but sometime 35-40 is what you get.

Ah. I only shoot big shot out of a 10. Counter productive out of a smaller bore IMO.
