Givin it up

Postby FlintRiverFowler » Sat Apr 27, 2013 8:11 am

No more smoking. No more fast food. Only drinking on the weekends...as opposed to every day like I have been.
"Much too young to feel this damn old", and it's all the poison that I'm putting in my body that makes me feel like shit.
Today is day two with no cigs and I'm one irritable asshole.

Good luck! I figured about how much I was spending on smokes a month then started throwing that into a savings account and ended up using that money to pay for a large part of my four wheeler.

The nicotine gum is the ticket. The Equate cinnamon tastes just like Big Red, is half the price of Nicorette, and will fuck you UP. If I hadn't gone to Vegas, I'd still be quit.

if i get fast food, i try to go to hippie fast food places. Way healthier, no fried stuff and the selection is better than shit that all tastes the same. luckily here we have quite a few, and they aren't bad tasting either. a big ass black bean burrito with chicken and hummus and other shit is pretty good for 7 bucks.

Less booze, no smokes, better diet.

No horse wins the triple crown. Be sure to make yourself a few allowances. I have lots of freinds who say they are going to quit smoking/chewing, start working out regularily, and eat better, all at the same time. Never seems to work. Start with one, and once it becomes habit, focus on the next thing.

Good luck!

I was a 22 beer a day drinker for 14 years and quit cold turkey two years ago. I try not to eat fast food anymore. Still gotta quit the smoking but I am 35 and was feeling like I was 70!

Solid advice. I've done the no smoking no fast food thing before and lasted a while. Knowing how much better I felt then is my motivation for that... Cutting back on booze... We will see what happens. I haven't drank in three days now and it really hasn't bothered me. I'm more of a frequent drinker than a heavy drinker. 3-5 beers a night is a hell of a lot less than my college days of 12-14 per night.

Everytime you feel the urge for a cigarette do some push ups. It'll give you something to replace the urge with plus help put you in better shape.

I'd say the biggest factor in your success to quit the smoking is going to be the wife. If she's still smoking it's going to be very hard for you to quit.

It's been over 2 years since I quit and I still find myself thinking about smoking a few times a month.

The biggest factor is all the assholes i work with smoking. They're the reason I've been smoking so much the last 6 months.

Well I just went over and drank a few beers with the neighbor and let our labs play around. Got back and my dip was gone. She was putting in five minute dips and spitting them out. It's ok her moms nickname in highschool was Skoal sister... must run in the family.

Skoal citrus for quitting cigs during the day. Skoal straight when drinking beer. Good luck and if it gets too harsh try getting on those e mail cigs.

Same here. I've quit once for a year and a half, and once for four months. Didn't take. I suspect it'll kill me one day, if it hasn't already.

My wife's grandmother had a funny response while talking to a doctor about her smoking. It has stuck with me for years. The doc asked if she was worried about getting lung cancer from smoking, she told him "Smokes don't give you lung cancer, lungs give you lung cancer!" She was one of my favorite in-law drinking buddies.
