I do that on public ground except with a coleman lantern. I call it "leaving the porch light on".
If someone wants to ride all the way out into a timber-hole to see if someone is there...I want them going "oh chit" long before they get into range of where I can hear them saying it. Once someone is in the hole going, "we thought nobody was here" is too late. "Houston, we have a problem here."
