Here's a quick funny story.

So I'm walking into Alabama Power to have the electricity for my new house put into my name and anyone who's ever worn flip flops for anytime knows that occasionally you'll get a stubbed toe. As I was walking in I did just that took off half my big toe. My first thought was "shit I haven't done this since I was a kid" but it didn't look so bad so I continued into the office. I'm standing there, toe throbbing and as I look down the previous slight stub had turned into a bright red pool of my own blood IN my flip flop. Luckily at this point none had spilled over onto the nice white floor.

So this super nice old black lady is making small talk with me and I'm not hearing a word she's saying. In my head I'm working on my exit strategy, how the fuck am I going to get out of this office with some seemed like 3 table spoons of my bright red O positive blood being slung about the floor.

All of a sudden I heard "have a nice day sweetie" and I knew it was time to do something. I couldn't just stand there all day so I moved and limped in a fashion that would keep the blood in the center of the flip flop. Twice I looked back and twice I saw a clean floor. When what seemed like miles had been limped I finally made it to the parking lot. As I picked up speed towards my truck you could see the trail of blood building behind me. I made it to the truck and got back to the house which still has no water to clean myself up with. Waiting for the guy at 330.

There is no situation I dread more than having to be patient and polite as my blood is running out with some professional person acting like their feelings will be hurt if I'm rude and just take care of myself.
Have been in these situations and found it's best to just tell the person quickly, "I gotta go".
It's easier for me to just come back later and help them fill out the report. (hurt feelings)

I'm a bit selfish and have had some people really abuse me on this politeness stuff. The type that will stand there talking for an hour until your phone batteries are dead. The type that insists that you quietly and politely wait because they got stuck mid-sentence and can't think of the next word.

The people are my parents. My father can't say 6 words without an awkward lengthy pause while he thinks. Heck, I think of the word he's searching for, blurt it out, and get into trouble still with the guy. Politeness ended YEARS ago.
My mom is the one who, if you're polite, will take you back on a journey to 1935, if you let her.

I call people like that TIME BANDITS.

I wear jeans and steel toed boots at work. If its -10 or 110. That is what I wear at work. Away from work its often cargo shorts and flip flops and if I'm around the house..bare footed. Have been known to walk back in the marsh and mud barefooted during early teal season.
