I have heard of several ways to teach a dog submission.
Some are considered bad now.

The ways I heard:
1. stake the dog out in the yard on a 1' rope until it learns you're the boss.
2. crate the dog until it learns...
3. get on all fours and make the dog cower under you.

I like #2 and #3.
#3 is highly effective, especially if you growl a little when you do it.
My male dog gets a little testy at times. Trying to assert dominance onto me and when he does...

I also say. "Better watch out fucker or I'll make you my bitch" (he hates that)

The reaction I get from the other dog is priceless. She's like, "I'll be good".

#1 works for a horse. Tie him in a stall on a lead line for about 6 hours a day. They learn patience and their place very quickly. Not sure about a dog, though.

My dog has been trained to know that when I say "fucker" he's about to get an ass-whippin.

The Dingo somehow recognizes the word "consequences". I can say it, even in the nicest tone, and she will instantly drop her head and ears, and start looking for an escape route to make herself scarce. I honestly don't know where that came from.

I was told to pin the dog to the ground on it's back until it stops fighting to get up then relax your grip. If they go to get up, pin em down again. When a dog rolls belly up they are showing submission to a pack leader.

In all candor, the gag ball and riding crop make as much sense to me as most of the other doggie dominance stuff I've heard and read. Be in charge of your relationship with Pup from the git-go and there'll be little need for contrived shows of force. A quick OB session strikes me as a far more constructive pecking order reminder than grappling, especially when its a spouse or child Pup's questioning.

Sometimes Rick, you can be in charge and still need an attention getter with a wild ass young dog. After I did this one time we had a different relationship. It got better, she needed to know the pecking order.

As an adult dog, we have that all worked out and its never a problem.
