Duck boats and duck boat blinds!

New Duck Boat Project!

Postby kalmic » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:04 am

Yesterday I purchased a 1986 Lund Rebel Special to turn into a duck boat. The person before had it for 3 years and left it open to the sun and rain so everything that is not aluminum needs to go. The good news is all the aluminum is in good shape along with the rivets. it has a live well but not sure if it works. I think I may put a console in it. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice before I get started on this one?

Thanks in advance.

As open as possible. If there's no need for a seat, don't have one bolted down. While I only have a small boat, I'll occasionally hunt with a buddy who has an 18' Jon, The only thing in it is a gun locker/bench chest which is about 8' long. Works out great- we just move it where we need it.

Rip out everything + green paint + blind = duck boat.

Why take the foam out and not replace it?

Been running this one since '05. Repowered in 2011. This is what I run I the summer for fishing with the kids etc, and I put a grass blind on it in the fall and use it on the inland lakes.

It will handle the big water ok, but we've got other, better options for that gig.

Are you a lefty? Saw the controls on the left side, that would set my "attention compulsive disorder" over the limit.

I am a lefty, but that wasn't why I put the controls on that side.
You can see in the above photo, I run a decoy box with 7doz decoys on long lines down the left side. The controls used to be on the right, but after snapping keys off in the ignition a couple times, I moved them to the left when I repowered, to get them out of the way.

I like how you organize your ducks. I may utilize that on my new boat. Should I just use a tiller or have a console?

Alright so I looked this boat up on the Lund archive Brochure. Interesting but minimal information. I was wondering if anyone have ever turned an old live into a cooler by either relining it, just cleaning it or another ideas?
